Gainesville is the county seat of Hall County and is situated 50 miles Northeast of Atlanta. Gainesville has the beautiful Lake Sidney Lanier which is the most popular U.S. Corps of Engineers Lake in the nation. The lake covers 38,000 acres and attracts some 10 million visitors per year.
Gainesville is just south of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was the site of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games for rowing, canoe, and kayak. There are four major golf courses in the area including Chattahoochee Golf Club, Legacy on Lanier, Chicopee Woods and Chateau Elan. It is home to the Northeast Georgia Health System which serves almost one million people in more than 18 counties across North Georgia.
There are three outstanding higher learning institutions that serve Hall County. They include Brenau University, Lanier Technical College and the University of North Georgia Oakwood campus.
There are many housing options including four master planned communities such as Lake Lanier communities. Retirement living is also at its best with several age restricted communities. There is major industry and businesses as well as an abundance of shops and restaurants that serve the area including the historic downtown.
